The History of the National Gallery London

The story of the National Gallery (National Art Gallery – National Art Museum) started in 1824. That time the House of Commons decided to spend £57000 to buy 38 collected pictures from Jhon Julius Angerstein. A few years later, after a lengthy discussion concerning the gallery location, in 1831 Parliament decided to provide a budget for constructing a building for the Gallery at Trafalgar Square. Seven years later, in 1838, the site-building was open admission free to the public.
