The History of the National Gallery in London

The story of the National Gallery (National Art Gallery – National Art Museum) started in 1824. At that time the House of Commons spent £57000 to buy 38 collected pictures from John Julius Angerstein. This is a huge amount. But there were some issues that need correction.

Then a few years later, there was a long discussion about the gallery location. There were different ideas. Finally, in 1831 Parliament provided a budget for constructing a building for the Gallery at Trafalgar Square. Though it took much time, that was done. Seven years later, in 1838, the site-building was open admission free to the public. At last, the public was free to visit this place. Now you can visit it today!
